My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey ya'll! Have no fear, Lexi is here! I am a 7 year old Yorkshire Terrier. I am looking for my furever home - could that be yours? Tipping the scale at only 8lbs, I'm a wee little lass, but I have a big heart full of lots of love to give. Friendly is my middle name - I LOVE people and attention so if you are looking for a little fur shadow, I definitely qualify for the position! Being outdoors in the sun, taking walks, and cuddling with someone are my favorite things. Don't let my pint size fool you! I love being active and busy. I don't mind sharing my space with other dogs although I'm not a playmate, but canine roomies are cool in my book (similarly sized pups only please, I don't want to get squashed!). I can fit into most places - an adult-only home, one with a blended family, or one with respectful children 10 years and older would be super. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
