We found Bruno injured on Highway 288 in Brazoria County. He was severely underweight and had a dislocated hip. He was treated at a veterinary clinic and his hip was successfully repaired. We posted to numerous lost pet and city Facebook pages in Brazoria and Fort Bend Counties and to popular lost pet internet sites. We found he had no microchip. No owners have come forward. We are unable to keep this dog as we have 5 pets at home currently, so we are boarding him in the meantime.
Bruno is a large, playful, affectionate dog who is highly intelligent and is attentive to his people. He loves to learn and wants to please his people. Treats and praise are great motivators for him. His kennel manager has taught him to “sit down,” “stay,” and “wait.” He loves to fetch and plays with tennis balls and rope bones happily. He is responsive to his handlers and follows their instructions (consistency is key). He also enjoys head scratches and will gently lean on you for petting.
He is estimated to be between 3-5 years old. We know he gets along with adults, both women and men. We believe he could be part of a family with children ranging from adolescents to teenagers who have learned to be respectful of dogs. Calm, loving people are key for this dog. We do not know how he will respond to cats. In the kennel setting he does not appear aggressive towards dogs but is not mingled with other dogs.
An ideal home for Bruno would be one where he is a single pet with owners that engage and stimulate him. He needs a fenced yard in which to play (frisbee or fetch, anyone?) but also needs to live indoors with his family where he will be regarded as an important family member. He is able to spend time alone in a kennel setting but greatly loves the company of people and wants their love. Bruno is a loving dog, but large (think great dane but with shorter legs), and will need continued obedience training.
If you are looking for a large, playful, affectionate, intelligent and attentive companion that loves to play with his humans; if you like to practice obedience and enjoy training and engaging with your dog; and if you want a loyal companion by your side, living with you in your home, then Bruno might be the perfect match for you.
