My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pita is the definition of sunshine on a cloudy day. The rainbow at the end of a rainstorm. She embodies her fullblown pittie wiggles right into your heart.

Pita's life has been a series of close calls. Three times, the shadow of euthanasia loomed over her at the Oklahoma shelter. But this resilient girl refused to give up! Advocates fought for her, and through sheer force of will (and a little bit of magic), she survived.

Then came the heartbreaking discovery of a retained dead fetus, leaving her with an infection. It seemed like even fate itself was conspiring against her. Yet, miraculously, Pita pulled through. She was also diagnosed with heart worm and Ehrlichia. She has begun treatment. Through it all, she has remained a happy, loving gal.

Now, this petite pittie is ready to embrace a life filled with love and adventure. Pita is a whirlwind of wiggles and snuggles, eager to shower her forever family with affection. She's the perfect companion for a laidback household or someone seeking an active adventure buddy. She could cuddle on the couch all day long, or go for a 2 mile hike. (But little Pita is a southern girl at heart, so she might enjoy some warm gear in the winter). Pita is good with cats, kids, and respectful dogs.

She is crate trained, knows basic commands like sit, down, leave it, come, and place. Her foster is actively working on proofing all of these commands as well as teaching her new things! She walks well on a leash. She could use some work jumping when on people, especially when she’s excited, but she is very sweet about it. She is your typical pittie for noise level, and will let you know all of her feelings with grunts, whines, and sighs. But she has rarely barked in her foster home.

Pita has so much potential as a lifelong companion for a plethora of lifestyles! Could you be the one to give this deserving girl the forever home she deserves?

Go meet their pets

Northern Lakes Rescue is foster based so all dogs are being fostered by amazing volunteers across the state of MN. Because of this, we require all meet and greets to be scheduled after an application is submitted.

More about this rescue

Our Vision is to be a voice for those who are voiceless. We hear them with our hearts and give them a voice. Looking into the eyes of a rescued animal will speak volumes; watching those eyes light up will have an everlasting impact on you and the rescued animals.

We aren’t a typical rescue as we don’t take in dogs and put them in kennels until they’re adopted. All dogs we rescue are placed in loving foster homes that teach them to be the best dog they can be.

Our journey doesn’t end with adoption, either. We are here for you to support you in integrating your new member into your home, cheer new triumphs, and help with struggles.
