My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Billy Go Lucky ACCT-A-210272! Billy Go Lucky is a 4-year-old male who came in as a stray on 1/2. The finder noted that Billy was “calm around strangers, children and animals. Walked good on leash and was shy, scared and playful.”

Behavior Notes:

Per staff 1/4: “Billy Go Lucky came out for activity time today. In the room, he was a bull in a china shop, running onto the handlers, jumping all over them and getting mouthy and playful. He is super sweet but just doesn't know his own strength and can lack proper bite inhibition. At one point, he did try to mount me but the other handler was able to pull him off and he went right for a toy. He is very good at redirecting himself when he gets too aroused but otherwise needs some assistance with redirection.”

Per staff 1/3: “We got a dog meet for BGL due to his behavior during intake. BGL was VERY forward and seemed to just want to mount the other dog, but did not show signs of aggression. I believe that his behavior would likely lead to a dog fight if paired with the wrong dog, but he doesn't appear to be “dog aggressive”. Still, I would NOT recommend he go home with another dog, and if he does it must be an EXTREMELY TOLERANT dog.”

1/3 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray - almost started a dog fight when he escaped the finder during intake
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Billy Go Lucky (BGL) was laying against the door of his kennel when I approached. He sat up with wide eyes and began rapidly wagging his tail. I was able to leash him easily but he began pushing hard against the door as I did. I was able to keep him contained until fully secured. As soon as he came out he began jumping and leash biting, almost knocking me over and almost ripping the leash away in the process. I got him jogging in the direction of the eval room and was able to get him to stop.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls strongly and leash bites!
HANDLING :
In the room BGL immediately found all the spots where dogs peed before him and began drooling and chuffing at them. He jumped up on me with wide eyes, and it took putting a treat in his face and throwing it to get him down. He is a very strong and stubborn boy! He did some tricks when asked but was too stressed to do what was asked. When asked to sit he would bark and lay down, and seemed to maybe know “paw”, but would not give it to me when asked. He mouthed at toys happily and snatched them from me roughly. BGL allowed all handling but was stress panting and wiggling throughout. When not getting attention he paced the room with a high tail and stress pants. At one point he began to mount me, but stopped when I gave him a stern “nuh uh uh, no”. We got a dog meet for him due to his behavior during intake. BGL was VERY forward and seemed to just want to mount the other dog, but did not show signs of aggression. I believe that his behavior would likely lead to a dog fight if paired with the wrong dog, but he doesn't appear to be “dog aggressive”. Still, I would NOT recommend he go home with another dog, and if he does it must be an EXTREMELY TOLERANT dog. BGL will need an experienced, strong adopter willing to give him the training he needs to succeed.
PLAY:
Did not attempt - did not feel safe attempting alone due to size and arousal when taking out of kennel - I feel he would likely escalate
TOYS:
Likes squeaky toys, let me take one form his mouth but was quite snatchy when taking them from me

Per staff 1/2: “Billy was loose in the parking lot and immediately ran up on an incoming husky. he was very forward, circling the husky growling and dominating over him with tense body language. Staff was able to contain him and separate him from the other dog before a fight broke out.”

Medical Notes:

Per an exam on 1/2: “Eyes are red. Ears are red and hot to touch. Teeth are slightly yellow. Thinning fur on hind end on base of tail. Bright, alert and responsive.”
