My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stella is a 3 year old, 54 pound female shepherd, possible catahoula, mix who is looking for her furever home and is a kid's dream dog.

She snuggles at bedtime, enthusiastically rides shotgun during school pick up and drop off, and is up for travel, hiking, and exploring adventures. She tolerates toddler’s pulls on ears and tugs on her tail, and is happy to be a super soft pillow for children’s heads on movie night. If you dare leave the house without her, she’ll stare sadly at the front door until you return. She is gently playful, calm, cheerful, and adoring of her people. She’s also gorgeous - Stella has beautiful brindle fur and the sweetest little face.

Stella will chase deer, squirrels, and other critters without hesitation, so would do best in a home with a tall fenced yard and no cats. She has done well with most dogs, but has shown aggression toward others, so might be best as an only dog.  She is smart, incredibly gentle with all people, and eager to please, and could be a good candidate to train as a therapy dog. Her adoption fee is $300.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require that the interested adopter come to meet the dog and then fill out an adoption application. We will review the application and then pass on to the dog's foster family (if applicable). We then contact the potential adopter's vet and we will also do a home visit. If all goes well, the adopter signs our adoption contract stating that, among other things, the dog will receive regular vet care and must be returned to us if things do not work out.

More about this rescue

We focus primarily on rescuing senior and special needs dogs in kill facilities. We are located on 30 acres of land in rural southern Michigan. We are a care-for-life facility, so any dog that does not or that we deem cannot be adopted will live with us for the rest of his/her life. Because we rescue the dogs that are not in high demand, it normally takes our dogs longer to find that perfect family. We believe that it takes a special family to adopt our special dogs.
