My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ray of Sunshine is a stunning stray husky who’s looking for a patient experienced adopter who understands her unique breed needs. While she may be stressed in the shelter environment, she shows glimpses of her sweet and curious nature and is ready to shine in the right home.

In her kennel, Ray greets friends calmly and she is polite on her leash. She has however, shown shows signs of stress—pacing and barking when she feels overwhelmed. With patience and time, she begins to lean in for affection and relax.

Ray enjoys chasing balls and is gentle when taking treats. She will thrive in a husky-experienced home where she can feel secure, decompress, and build trust with her new people.

If you’re ready to provide the structure, love, and guidance she deserves, meet her at ACCT Philly any day, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

Behavior notes:
Per Volunteer 1/4/25: Ray of Sunshine greeted me with a loose body- she was very easy for leashing and walks well with minimal pulling. Loves being in the play yard!! Enjoys sniffing around the yard and has no interest in treats. Not very focused on me- just likes romping around. She love to run! Likes chasing toys but runs right by them and just keeps running so doesn’t seem to want to fetch lol Loved being outside- will thrive with a yard. Went through the tunnel so might enjoy some obstacles. She’s a fun and independent gal! Jumped on me and was barking at one point but remained very loose and wiggly- just excited. No issues returning to kennel

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:

KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray - noted to be dog reactive by the finder

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Ray of Sunshine was near the door of her kennel when I approached. She did not look up at me and just sniffed me through the crack of the door with a neutral body. She continued to sniff as I reached in with my leash, but finally looked up with neutral eyes. She didn’t like me reaching over her head, but I was still able to leash her easily. She came right out once secured.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled minimally

HANDLING :
Ray of Sunshine (RoS) was very stressed and conflicted in the room with me. She avoided my touch at first, moving her body away whenever I tried. We paced around the room together while she stress panted and exit searched. She would get frustrated if I made her stay in the same spot for too long, and would bark and jump/spin in circles. After several minutes of pacing she allowed some pets, but was very aloof and ignored me. We continued to pace and after about 10-15 minutes RoS did solicit and lean into me a bit. She was conflicted though, and would randomly spin around and run away from me. RoS allowed handling, but did not like her paws or underside touched, and would spin away from me. She took a single treat very gently, but did not want anything else. After she had relaxed a bit she sowed interest in balls, and would chase them but would not take possession. Overall, RoS is a stressed, anxious husky that would benefit from an adopter who understands the breed, and can give her the support that she needs.

PLAY:
Did not attempt - did not feel safe alone with her levels of stress

TOYS:
Too fearful, got scared by a bouncing ball

01/02/2025 medical staff notes:
She did good for her intake exam. She was giving mixed signals like she would come up for pets but when you went to touch her she would tense up and fixate on your hand. While attempting to get her weight the ACA was trying to help her onto the scale and she whined and snapped at his hand when he touched her belly. Outside of he belly being touched she was fine. She had to be leash muzzled and leaned up against the door but other than that she was fine.
