My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nylah is a sweet, super loving, cuddly 2 year old Pitbull mix who is quite the velcro dog and always wants to be near you! She is a small statured girl at only 35lbs, and will be around 40lbs at a good weight. She has the most adorable signature move of leaping right into your arms when you ask her to!

Nylah was a police confiscate case along with her brother who was missing his entire ear when found. They were both owned and kept in a small house with little to no access to the outdoors, food, water, and other basic needs. They very clearly did not have a good life as they were both severely malnourished and underweight, riddled with parasites, and absolutely covered in old scars and fresh scabs. Nylah's brother was pulled by another rescue, having landed on the euthanasia list before Nylah did. Only a few days after he was pulled, Nylah ended up on the euthanasia list as well and we knew we had to save her. She had such sad, pleading eyes and it was obvious that she was terrified and uncertain of what was happening at the shelter. Almost immediately when we brought her home, she opened up a little and just wanted to stay next to us.

Nylah is fearful by nature since she hasn't had any kind of socialization or exposure to the world. She is getting more accustomed to experiencing new things every day, but she is still very cautious and nervous when faced with these new things. She quite literally clings to people she trusts as a form of comfort and relief. She has to be encouraged to step into the unknown and she is apprehensive at first, but slowly gets more comfortable with each passing moment. She is the sweetest girl and just wants to please you and be loved on!

Nylah is not used to being around dogs other than her brother, so she is very unsocialized and defensive with them. She will need some rehabilitation work done in order to help her start trusting dogs and realize that not all dogs are scary or mean. While she can be fine around pretty neutral dogs, she does not understand body language and gets defensive if they make a move towards her that she is not expecting, such as a play bow. She would most likely do best in an only dog home, but proper socialization will still be very important in order for her to be a successful, confident, happy dog.

Nylah seems to be potty trained and is crate trained, though she does have some anxiety and is a bit of an escape artist. She appears to be more comfortable with women over men, but learns to trust fairly quickly. Nylah will need lots of patience and work, but in return she will give the best reward; her trust, love, and utmost loyalty. She is truly such a good and loving dog who deserves the best home!

Nylah is located in Houston TX but can be transported to most US states for adoption.
