My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bud, the resilient and charming 9.5-year-old Chihuahua mix with a heart of gold and a few adorable quirks. At just 10 pounds, this white and tan little gentleman may have some special needs, but he doesn’t let them slow him down. Despite being diabetic and nearly blind, Bud is thriving on his twice-daily insulin shots (Novolin N, an affordable $25 from Walmart) and prescription WD dog food. He’s proof that with a little extra care, life can still be full of joy and cuddles!

Bud is a pro at navigating his environment, memorizing the layout of his foster home and backyard like a champ. He gets along well with other dogs, though slow introductions are a must so he can learn their scents and feel comfortable. This little guy is crate-trained, house-trained (as long as he’s let out regularly), and sleeps soundly through the night. If he does get up for a midnight wander, it’s usually just to stretch his legs or let you know it’s potty time.

One of Bud’s favorite pastimes? Snuggling up on the couch for cuddles and giving kisses. He’ll let you know when it’s time to hop down, adding to his endearing personality. He’s the perfect balance of affectionate and independent, making him a wonderful companion for a family who can provide him with the stability he needs.

Bud is looking for a calm, kid-free (under 10) home with a backyard where he can roam and explore safely. His ideal family will be committed to his care routine, providing him with his insulin shots, prescription food, and the love he so deserves. In return, Bud promises unconditional loyalty, endless snuggles, and years of companionship.

If you’re ready to welcome this amazing little man into your life, fill out an application to meet Bud. He’s waiting to become your next best friend!

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process.

All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Bud’s adoption fee is $100. If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
