My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Fauna, a 12.3-pound bundle of love, fun, and black-and-tan cuteness! At just 1.5 years old, this little Chihuahua mix has already proven that she’s a total gem. Rescued from a high-kill shelter, Fauna has left her tough beginnings behind and is ready to take her rightful place as the queen of your heart (and your couch!).

Fauna is the life of the party when it comes to her four-legged friends. She gets along with dogs of all shapes and sizes, though her current foster siblings are more “nap squad” than “play crew.” Fauna would absolutely LOVE a playful dog sibling to wrestle, romp, and share toys with. Until then, she’s content practicing her zoomies and toy skills solo, so she needs a fenced yard to play in.

Cuddle time is Fauna’s specialty! She’s a champion snuggler who’s just as happy napping on your lap as she is curling up at the end of your bed or couch. She’ll even give you the sweetest kisses and gently “groom” you like the little lovebug she is. And when it’s time for work? Fauna is a dream WFH assistant—quiet, polite, and happy to keep you company while you conquer your day.

House-trained and crate-trained, Fauna is a star student in the “good girl” department. She’s even working on tackling her fear of stairs (they’re tricky, okay?) and walks nicely on a leash. Rarely barking, Fauna’s communication style is a soft little whine when she needs some attention—not clingy, just adorable.

Fauna is looking for a forever home with plenty of love, snuggles, a playful dog buddy if possible and a secured yard. She dreams of a family who will make her feel safe, cherished, and ready to explore the wonderful life ahead of her. She's young so she's happy to explore by putting everything left out in her mouth to chew on. Don’t miss out on the chance to meet this incredible little girl—she’s ready to bring her joy and magic into your life. Apply now for a meet-and-greet with Fauna, your new best friend!

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process.

All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Fauna’s adoption fee is $200. Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
