This helps Amazing Mutts and Wiggle Butts Co. with pet care costs.
Jo is looking for a foster to adopt situation while he undergos heartworm treatment.
Jo is a cute little guy about 40 lbs. Short litle legs with an amazing personality. Full grown adult estimated to be 2-3 years of age.
He is neutered and up to date on vaccines, micro chipped but sadly tested postitive for heartworm. I till be 60-90 days before he will be available for adoption. We are hoping a family will see him and fall in love! Spend some time getting to know his personality and then help him through heartworm treatment and crate rest that comes along with treatment.
The first 60 days of heartworm treatment is easy. He takes a rx 2x a day for 30 days. followed by 30 days of no medication... This is the time where a family can get to know Jo. Spend some time learning his favorites, seeing his average energy level and just enjoying eachother's company. Then day 60 he will have his first heartworm treatment injection followed by 3 weeks of strict crate rest and leash walking. He could have moments where he doesn't feel good, he is in pain, he might start coughing or even just not act himself. Then when he is completely back to normal it will be day 90 and 91 where he has to go back for his 2nd and 3rd inject followed by another 3-4 weeks of strict crate rest and leash walking. Kind of a pain, and it would be so much easier if someone just loved him enough to give him a monthly prevention... we can't change his past, but a few months of treatment means we can give him a better future, happy and heartworm free.
Treatment is done at one of our amazing vet partners in Kennesaw/Acworth area, so it would be best that his foster family be in the area or willing to drive to and from on the days he has his scheduled treatments. Crate rest is mandatory after each injection, so you have to be a person/family that understands proper crate training and the benefits of a crate.
The days before his first injection and then 30 days after his 3rd injection, you will learn that Jo is an amazing dog. Good with other dogs and has a playful nature about him. He enjoys carrides and hanging out with his people. Walks good on leash, still working on not jumping up on people. He is very treat motivated and enjoys a good bully stick or a peanut butter kong for long moments in the crate. He has been crate trained since coming to rescue and is comfortable being in a crate with just a little treat to coax him in.
Not sure I would put him in a home with cats, however he has not offically meet one.
Once treatment has been completed, he would be available for adoption. At that point, his adoption fee would be $300 which includes neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and treated for heartworms. We are happy to provide a crate during treatment as well as cover all medical expenses while Jo undergoes heartworm treatment.
