You can see the conflict in Luke's eyes: he so wants to come to you for pats and attention, which he craves, but he is nervous around most people and their too-quick movements or outstretched hands, so he'll back safely out of reach. Not too far away, though... he really wants to be nearby and will often follow you around the house or yard like a quiet little shadow. When his skittishness isn't getting the best of him, Luke is a wonderful little 16 lb. companion with a gentle nature, great house manners, and fabulous leash-walking skills. He has an adorably quirky 'smile' when he is feeling affectionate and wants to give kisses. His house-training is reliable when he is kept on a routine and his humans don't ignore his soft whining cues. Luke will spend the night curled up in bed with you or, if you prefer, in a nearby crate where he'll rest comfortably and patiently until you let him out in the morning. He is congenial with other dogs, hanging out near them and sometimes trying to entice them to play with bows and feints and excited zoomies. He is uncomfortable when they get too close at treat time, however, or if he thinks they're trying to take his coveted space on the couch next to Foster Dad, in which case he'll give a warning growl to tell the other dog to back off. He is accustomed to living with cats, mostly just ignoring them. Luke is 6 years-old but he doesn't seem to know basic commands – yet! He is very food motivated, though, so he may do well with training. Luke is hoping for a quiet home with patient, dog-savvy adult humans, especially if they're slow-moving and like to sit around giving lots of pets and scratches and belly rubs. You can see lots more pictures of him and a few videos in his album at www.ImageEvent.com/beales/fosters/luke .
Our adoption fee is $200 for adult dogs or $250 for puppies under 6 months old.
