Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Aston – Your Future Snuggle Buddy and Playmate!
Age: 9 weeks
Weight: 12 pounds
Breed: Herding Mix
Hi there! I’m Aston, a sweet and laid-back puppy searching for my perfect forever family. Could that be you?
My Story:
I’ve had a rough start in life. My siblings and I were born on Halloween on the streets of Texas. Our mom, barely more than a puppy herself, was underweight and struggled to survive on scraps. Thankfully, a kind lady found us shortly after we were born and brought us to a shelter. From there, Safe Haven stepped in, and at just nine days old, we made the journey to Illinois. For the past 8 weeks, my foster family has taken wonderful care of me, and now I’m ready to find my forever home.
About Me:
I’m the more laid-back sibling in my litter but still have the energy and playfulness you’d expect from a puppy. I love to play fetch, tug-of-war, or just enjoy a good snuggle session. My foster mom says my chocolate brown eyes are my secret weapon for winning hearts!
What I’m Working On:
Potty Training: I’m using pee pads in my foster home but will need help mastering potty training.
Crate and Leash Training: I haven’t started crate or leash training yet, but I’m ready to learn with your guidance.
The Perfect Home for Me:
Kids: I’d love to be part of a family with children. I enjoy snuggles, tail-wagging greetings, and gentle playtime.
Other Dogs: I’d do great in a home with another dog. My foster home has three dogs of different sizes and ages, and I love learning from them.
Active Lifestyle: While I’m laid-back compared to my siblings, I still enjoy playtime and would thrive with a family that gives me fun activities and love.
Why I’m Special:
At 9 weeks old and 12 pounds, my foster mom thinks I’ll grow to be a large medium-sized dog. I’ve got a calm and loving personality, and I’m eager to please. I’ll be the perfect addition to a family that’s ready to help me learn and grow into a wonderful companion.
A Gentle Reminder:
Puppies like me need someone who’s patient, caring, and willing to invest time in training and socialization. Positive reinforcement, consistency, and patience are the keys to raising a happy, well-adjusted pup.
If I sound like the perfect match for your family, don’t wait! Send your application to Safe Haven today—I can’t wait to meet you!

More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
