Overview

Meet Lady Ava, or "Ava" for short. She is a sweet and incredibly affectionate pup weighing 14 lbs with a lovely tan coat. She came to Little Paws when her previous owner could no longer care for her and her brother, and now they are looking for a loving lap to call their own.

She’s a sweet senior who will melt your heart with her affectionate nature”

Environment

Ava enjoys a moderate activity level with short walks and playtime. While she'd appreciate a yard, it's not essential for her happiness as she’s great on the leash. She's well-mannered in apartments or shared living spaces, being fairly quiet and respectful of her surroundings. She's quite content being left alone, making her a great companion for those with regular schedules.

Pets & People

Ava is a true people person! She absolutely adores humans and will press her whole body into you for pets and attention. She's never met a stranger she didn't like and is incredibly gentle when taking treats. While she hasn't been tested with children yet, she's shown nothing but sweetness with all the people she's met. However, Ava would do best with her brother and her as the only dog in the home, as she can be nervous around larger dogs during walks and did not like sharing the attention with a third dog in the house.

Quirks & Personality

This affectionate girl is the ultimate cuddle bug – she'll happily spend all day in your lap if you let her! She's quite submissive and frequently asks for belly rubs, which makes her utterly endearing. Ava is a gentle soul at mealtime, taking treats politely and enjoying her food at a leisurely pace. She tends to be more relaxed during mornings and early afternoons, with a bit more energy in the evenings. While she can be slightly nervous at times, human companionship helps her feel secure. She handles car rides well, settling down in her bed without fuss.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
