Hi! I’m Meera!

I’m a fun, outgoing little Chihuahua mix. I like all the people I’ve met so far, including kids! I live with teenagers currently. I also live with a gigantic dog who I was not interested in playing with at first (because I was scared he would crush me) but now he’s my best buddy! We are like the lion and the mouse really. Lol.

I hang out in my xpen while my foster family works and goes to school. I also sleep in there overnight. I don’t mind it, there’s so many toys to play with and I love all the space. It’s kind of like an entire city for a tiny queen like me. I have a huge fuzzy dog bed too. I am quite the sassy diva and can get kinda barky when my brother and I wrestle and play but otherwise I’m not really vocal. In all fairness, he is twice my size.

I love attention and to be held and pet. I’m a really tiny baby though so just know I won’t be a big adult! I’m always curious to see what you’re doing. So, come see me!

Meera is estimated to be 7 weeks old and 4 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

More about this rescue

Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.

We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.

This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
