My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there! I’m Thor, a 7-year-old Rottweiler, but don’t let my age fool you—I’ve got plenty of pep in my step!

I’m a cuddly, loyal guy who loves to be affectionate and play. I’m medium energy most of the time, but I definitely know how to get active and have fun, especially when bones or kids are involved! I absolutely adore playing with kids of all ages, and I’ll gladly share my love for bones with anyone who wants to hang out with me.

I know how to “sit” like a good boy, but I’ve spent most of my life as an outside dog, so I’m still working on getting the hang of house training. I’m learning though, and soft, yummy treats make it way more fun and rewarding! I’m super treat-motivated, so I’ll be a star at learning leash manners and all the other basics of indoor life. I love those tasty treats—bring them on!

I get along great with other dogs and would be thrilled to have a dog buddy. I’ve never met a cat before, but since I’m pretty easygoing and playful, I could probably live with a cat who’s used to dogs and knows how to handle themselves.

In my past life, I’ve lived in a yard with a shorter fence, but honestly, I’d do better in a home with a large yard where I can run off all my energy. I’ll also need a tall fence so I can’t escape (I’m pretty smart and like to explore). But I’ll be perfectly happy just hanging out with my family, playing and cuddling up with you after a good play session.

One thing I don’t like is fireworks—those things freak me out. But other than that, I’m pretty chill and would love to find a family who can give me the love, attention, and space I need.

If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and affectionate companion, I think we’d be a great match! I can’t wait to meet you

More about this shelter

In August of 2015, the Idaho Falls community realized its dream of opening a second animal sheltering facility. Unlike other animal shelters, the Snake River Animal Shelter (SRAS) will provide an animal an unlimited length of stay, thus avoiding the need for euthanasia.

SRAS was built to take owner surrenders and transfer animals from other shelters throughout the Upper Snake River Valley, thus relieving overcrowding at the city operated animal shelters throughout East Idaho. We operate solely on donations, grants and sponsorships from businesses and individuals. This unique place offers adoption services and a place for the animals to socialize with each other and their future families. Education is a large part of the existence of this facility, educating the community about proper pet care and responsibilities. We also facilitate and partner in spay and neuter programs to alleviate the problem of too many unwanted domestic animals. Snake River Animal Shelter offers Elementary-age field trips, tours, and presentations and invites teens to participate in the care and feeding of the SRAS animals. Senior citizens are welcome guests and fulfill many volunteer positions that are essential for the care of our animals.
