Joy is a beautiful 2-year-old Terrier blend who weighs approximately 14 pounds. She has a sweet temperament and is active and playful. She loves to cuddle and gets along well with pretty much everything.
Joy has been diagnosed with a heartworm infection. Because she is so young we have opted to do the slow kill protocol on her. The adopter will be provided with 6 months of Advantage Multi (a Heartworm and Flea Prevention) which is part of the slow kill protocol.
Dogs acquire heartworm infections when they are bitten by a mosquito that was infected with heartworm larvae. Dogs with heartworm infection live happy, high-quality lives as long as they are given appropriate care. Heartworm infection is relatively common in the United States so we are in need of caring adopters like you that are willing to open their home to a dog with heartworm infection. We think that our heartworm dogs have just as much to offer their new adopters as any other dog and they deserve a chance at life. Adopters will receive all the necessary medications needed to complete the heartworm treatment protocol.
Please understand you are committing to providing a good home for her entire life (up to 15+ years or more.)
You must be committed to housebreaking, age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization.
Her adoption fee is $250. This includes her spay surgery, rabies vaccination, Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPP vaccination, Nobivac® Intra-Trac 3 vaccination, Drontal® Plus, IDEXX SNAP® 4Dx Plus Test, Tri-Heart® Plus chewable tablet, 24PetWatch® microchip, and leash and collar.

Our adoption events are held each Saturday at Petco located in the Northwoods Shopping Center at 18138 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio TX 78232. Event hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

SASPCA Homeward Bound Dog Rescue and San Antonio Great Dane Rescue are 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue groups based in San Antonio, Texas.
Our group focuses on assisting open admission shelters in South Texas where over 32,000 dogs and cats are euthanized each year.
Our puppies and dogs are completely vetted and live in foster homes. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and tested for heartworm disease.
All adoptions include one month of flea and heartworm preventative and a leash and collar.

If your adoption application is approved and you are traveling from out-of-town, we hold your chosen pet for one hour past the event start time to allow for travel time.
We are an all-volunteer organization and do not currently have the resources to process out-of-state adoptions.
