Anchovy is a cute male kitten who was brought to the HSOV on July 18, 2024 along with his three siblings (Snap, Crackle, and Pop) by a Good Samaritan who found them in her driveway in the Lowell Ohio area. Their mother was found (deceased) and her kittens were nearby crying/meowing uncontrollably. Anchovy and his little sister/two brothers were approximately 3-weeks old at that time, and they were in desperate need of care.
Sadly none of Anchovy's siblings survived in spite of heroic efforts by a foster mother and our kennel techs.
Anchovy was eventually placed with an HSOV mother cat (Pepperoni) who raised him with her four biological kittens. Pepperoni and her kittens were spayed/neutered and found homes of their very own .. And for awhile, Anchovy shared a cage with two other kittens but eventually ended up by himself since he required medications for an ulcer in his eye and antibiotics for URI (upper respiratory infections).
Anchovy has a sleek black short smooth coat with a few white hairs on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable (rather mischievous-looking) kitten face with golden eyes, a black velvet nose, and long black whiskers.
This little guy is the ultimate playboy and dearly loves attention. Anchovy has an ulcer in his right eye and may have impaired vision in that eye, but he is just as active and playful as any other kitty with normal vision.
Anchovy was given vaccinations on October 12, 2024. He weighed 2.28 lbs that day. Anchovy was given booster vaccines on October 26th and November 15, 2024. He has been given eye medications, antibiotics, and Pyrantel wormer on various dates.
We had taken preliminary photos of Anchovy on October 14, 2024 which were adorable (and several of those pictures have been printed/placed in his file which will be given to his new family with his adoption paperwork).
These photos of Anchovy were taken on January 1, 2025 when HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos accompanied him in our 'studio' for his "big boy" photos. Anchovy made the most of his out-of-cage time to do zoomies around the studio, play with toys, and jump through baskets. Anchovy really needs a playmate to engage in silly kitten games (or a human friend who will have plenty of time to entertain him).
It was touching to see Anchovy jump into Angel Grosklos' arms and put his head against her shoulder when his photo session was finished. As it turned out, Angel was one of the first people that Anchovy met when he came to HSOV as a tiny kitten! Angel (and another HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard) were at the shelter for an after-hours dog walk on the evening of July 18th and had helped Anchovy and his siblings get settled in a cage..
Anchovy will be neutered (tentatively in late January 2025) before being adopted by his new family. He would love to go to a home where there was a playful kitty (or adopted with another shelter kitty).
