Sheryl is a sweet, calm, loving girl, looking for an owner to cuddle for life! Sheryl was found as a stray dog covered in injuries, but even in that state was a sweet and gentle gal. She is definitely scared at first but warms up with time and yummy treats! She is now waiting at ACCT Philly for her person, someone loving and kind who shows her that the world doesn't have to be so scary!
Sheryl is now available for adoption and foster at ACCT Philly. She's hoping her knight in shining armor is coming soon- you can meet her any day from 10am-6pm! Interested fosters should email foster@acctphilly.org.
Behavior:
Per Volunteer 1/2/25: Such a sweet girl!! Just needs some time to warm up. Sheryl was laying on her bed when I approached- she was tense and lip licking so I dropped some hotdogs. She took them immediately and seemed much more loose! Definitely treat motivated and takes them super gently. She’s overwhelmed walking through the shelter and outside, crouching to the floor and pulling a bit to get away from other people or loud noises. Great on leash when she’s not feeling scared! In the play yard she was exit searching at first then came to me when she got more comfortable. Soooo sweet and cuddly! Loves pets and leans into her human for comfort. Skittish with loud noises. Got so much more wiggly and comfortable with time. Met another dog through the fence briefly and was a bit shut down, but didn’t react at all. She knew sit after a bit of time practicing. Love her- could’ve stayed there all day
Per Staff 1/2/25: Brought Sheryl out for some activity time today. She was in a side bank due to space still and was sitting upright with a neutral body when approaching. She was easy to leash but was very nervous to exit her kennel. In the room she was very mellow and calm, just wanting to be near us. She stayed close to us and would nudge herself close and rest her head on our laps. She took treats gently when offered n the room but did show knowledge of any commands. She remained timid in the room with us during her time out but was tolerant to all handling without any issues.
Per Staff 1/1/25: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Sheryl
KNOWN HISTORY:

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Sheryl was in a side bank laying down with wide scared eyes and a trembling body. I opened the kennel slightly and reached in with the leash and allowed me to secure it. Once secured she did not want to move at all and lifted her butt into the air but kept it still while shaking her front paws. She was trying to be brave and even when I gave her space or treats she refused to come out. I used her blanket and baby talk to get her out and once out she began slowly walking.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally –fearful on leash
HANDLING :
In the room, Sheryl was very nervous and fearful. She was so scared, hiding under the table most of the time she would rest her hand in my lap while pushing all her weight into me. She was super nervous of overhead touch at first but with some time and treats she allowed all the handling. She didn't move much from under the table but once I would move my legs she followed them from under the table and rested her head onto my lap whenever. She was super tolerant of another staff member that came into the room and went up to him slowly and rested her head on him, lip licking and giving lots of appeasement signals. She allowed all handling from him but was not as comfortable. She would go back and forth between us and begin warming up more to him, allowing all over pets and taking treats. Sheryl is extremely nervous and just wants to be held and comforted
