My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maya, Part Snuggle Buddy, Part Adventure Pal!

Hi, there!  I’m  Maya, a 3-year-old Terrier mix with a zest for life and a love for cuddles. Weighing in at 48 pounds of pure sweetness, I’m the perfect size to join you for outdoor adventures and then flop onto the couch for a snuggle session after. I had a ruff start, rescued from the ESLR shelter in Ensenada, but I don’t let that bring me down. I’m scrappy, resilient, and so ready to find my people!

I love hanging out with humans and doggy friends – I’m a big fan of playtime and I even share my toys like a pro! I sometimes get a little protective of my space around other pups, but with guidance and supervision, I’m all about making friends.

Sometimes I’m a lazy lounge queen, perfectly content snoozing the day away by your side. Other times, I’m bursting with playful energy, ready for zoomies, fetch, or a romp with my foster brothers. I also adore walks – long ones are my jam! I’ve even tackled almost 5 miles in one go. I do have an old leg injury, so my humans keep an eye on me to make sure I’m not overdoing it, but I’ll let you know when I need a break.

I’m super smart (especially when there’s food involved). If you’re cooking in the kitchen, I’ll happily keep you company. Training? I’ve got the basics down: I’m potty trained (a few early accidents, but I’ve figured it out!), crate-trained, and I’m learning to be better on a leash.

Why me?  Because I’ve got a heart as big as my love for snacks. I’m a cuddler extraordinaire and a loyal companion. I’d do great in an active home with someone who loves walks, runs, or hikes, or maybe even a yard where I can stretch my legs. If you’re looking for a snuggle-ready pooch with just the right amount of energy to keep life interesting, I’m your girl.  Let’s make this official – I’m ready to be your best friend furever!

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
