My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Salem and Sabrina, 6-year-old bonded siblings looking for their forever home together!

Sabrina is a dainty young female cat looking for her forever home!

This independent little lady is a petite, enchanting house cat with a big personality and a heart full of sass. She is sweet and affectionate—but only when she decides it’s time for cuddles. Don’t worry, though—she’ll always keep an eye on you! Sabrina loves to follow her favorite humans around, just to make sure you’re doing everything to her satisfaction.

She’s the queen of high places, so expect to find her perched like royalty, surveying her domain. She’s also a toy fanatic—give her a wand toy, and she transforms into a playful maniac, showing off her impressive acrobatics. When she’s not playing, her curiosity takes over, and she’ll be investigating every nook and cranny of her surroundings.

Meet Salem: Your Friendly Feline Teddy Bear!

Salem is a 6-year-old cuddly kitty, looking for his forever home with his bonded bff, Creamsicle beauty Sabrina.

Salem is a big, lovable guy with a heart just as large as his frame. This chonky charmer adores attention and will happily accept all the head scratches and back pets you’re willing to give. Get the right spot, and he’ll reward you with an adorable belly flop—it’s his signature move!

Need a polite reminder that it’s time for cuddles? Salem has you covered! He’ll stand pretty on his hind legs and place his paws on you—a sweet little nudge to let you know he’s ready for some love.

Although Salem enjoys playing, he’s more into solo toys than chasing a wand. He’s a cat who knows what he likes, and his laid-back play style matches his easy going personality. Salem is also a creature of routine; if you’re on a schedule, he’ll make it his mission to greet you at the door when you get home, ready to welcome you with his gentle presence.

Salem and Sabrina currently have the run of a mid-sized townhome where they roam freely. They live with one human and one other cat companion and would likely thrive in a home that is on the quieter side. They will also do well in a home with people who are around a lot, and who enjoy giving lots of affection to attentive cat pals. They get along well with cats and gentle kids over 5; they haven't met any dogs yet.

Salem is the ultimate companion for anyone looking for a loyal, affectionate, and slightly goofy buddy. Could your home (and heart) use a big, cuddly teddy bear like Salem, with the bonus of the beautiful Sabrina? Reach out to meet them today!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
