My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gracie is a loving adult, possibly senior girl, looking for a quiet place to call home.

This pretty lady loves to get face scratches and belly rubs from her favorite people. She also loves licking and rolling in catnip. She snoozes most of the day and will spend some time looking out the window. She’s working on gaining confidence, which will come with caring people and enough time in a peaceful environment.

She is a low energy cat currently, but that could be partially due to her being a bit on the fluffy side; as she continues her healthy weight-loss journey, she may gain additional energy.

Gracie is currently living in her own room in a quiet part of the house. She gets regular visits from 2 adults and is still a little hesitant to leave her room; as her trust in others grows, she may become more curious about her surroundings. This sweet gal would do best in an adults-only home where she is the only pet in residence.

Her ideal forever home would be a quiet, consistent place where her people are around a lot, with no other animals. She would need her own room set up as her safe space. (It’s best for her to avoid interactions with any visiting kids and other pets at this time, since she lacks confidence and has had litter box issues in the past when stressed.)

Her forever humans should also be willing to help with her weight loss using controlled portions (no free feeding) and regular active play time. Otherwise, she is a low-maintenance gal and just wants regular petting and cuddles.

A nearby vet is essential, to minimize her time in the car, along with a pet sitter who can come to the house to feed her, play with her, and provide lots of attention when her people are away. She is a sweet lady who just seeks love, confidence, and trust to live her best life in a peaceful, caring home. Like many cats coming from a stressful background, this adorable girl just needs a fresh start.

If you can find a place in your heart for this beautiful gal, Gracie would love to meet you!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
