My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chloe
❌ NO CATS ❌
60 lbs
2-3 years
Retriever Mix

Chloe has been with us for a little while now, and she’s captured all of our hearts. This beautiful jet black girl with the softest fuzzy ears and happy tail is about 2–3 years old and weighs 60 pounds. Stocky and strong, Chloe is full of love and energy, and she’s ready to meet her perfect match.

Chloe’s story is heartbreaking. On Christmas Day, a kind person spotted her wandering on the highway and couldn’t bear to leave her in danger. They brought her to us, but we later learned that Chloe had been hanging around another home for a few weeks prior. Unfortunately, that situation didn’t work out because she wasn’t friendly with their cats, and she was sent back outside to fend for herself.

When Chloe arrived at the shelter, we were hopeful her microchip would lead us to her family. But when we contacted her previous owner, we were met with heartbreak. They told us they had given Chloe away weeks earlier to someone in another county but couldn’t remember who. They mentioned trying to return her to the shelter they adopted her from but were turned away because it had been over 30 days since her adoption. The call ended with them saying, “That dog is no longer our responsibility,” before they hung up, never to be heard from again.

Through all of this, Chloe has remained a shining light. She adores people and loves playing with other dogs who match her playful, “push-and-pull” style. She would do great with a canine sibling who enjoys some friendly roughhousing. However, Chloe isn’t a fan of cats, so she needs a cat-free home.

We don’t know how Chloe ended up here, but we do know she deserves so much better than the hand she’s been dealt. She’s a resilient, loving girl who has been let down by people time and again, yet she continues to greet the world with hope and affection.

Our shelter is at capacity, and it breaks our hearts that Chloe has been failed over and over again by people. She’s ready for a fresh start. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful companion who will love you unconditionally, please come meet Chloe. Let’s help her finally find the home she’s been dreaming of.

More about this shelter

We are the Habersham County Animal Care & Control. We intake from Habersham County Georgia. We take in strays, owner surrenders, abandoned and abused animals.

We take in approximately 200-300 animals monthly. In order to get them out into safe and loving homes, time is of the essence! Our facility was not built for the volume we encounter.

The shelter provides safe haven for stray and abandoned animals, and makes every effort to find good homes for available cats and dogs. We hope both County residents, and non-residents, will choose the adoption- option for our deserving pets,
