My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rusty!

Rusty is the perfect mix of playful and chill. He’s a calm, well-mannered boy who loves to play hard but will happily curl up next to you for a cozy nap. Rusty thrives in a home with other dogs and kids—he’s wonderful with his foster’s 4-year-old grandchild and has been a polite, curious gentleman with the household cat.

This boy was found with another female dog, quite undernourished by a mail lady on a dead end road in Arkansas. After gaining their trust, she was able to bring both to rescue and then to a local foster home.

Rusty’s foster mom can’t say enough good things about him. He’s a solid, sweet-natured pup who seldom gets overly excited or jumps up. He listens well, shows no aggression, and is happy to share his toys and food. In fact, he’ll even let you take a toy or treat from him without a fuss.

He loves a good game of keep-away with his canine sister and enjoys his chew toys (though he has a soft spot for shoes if left unattended!). Rusty is crate-trained, doggie door trained, and has never had an accident in the house or his crate. He’s also great on a leash, greets other dogs nicely, and rides well in the car while tethered.

Rusty is respectful of boundaries, doesn’t try to escape through doors or gates, and has fantastic recall in both the house and fenced yard. He’s not much of a troublemaker but does best with a little supervision to keep everything in its place.

Rusty is ready to thrive in a loving forever home! If you’re looking for a calm, sweet, and easygoing companion who’s good with kids, dogs, and even cats, Rusty might just be your perfect match.

More about this rescue

PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.

Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
