My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gus is a handsome and easy-going Pitbull/Mix. He is estimated to be around 3yr old, and is medium sized - weighing 50lbs. He is a wonderful boy who would fit well in any house. He is low key, eager to please, and is dog friendly! This sweet guy currently lives with 7 dogs in his foster home. Gus is potty trained, crate trained (12hr), and has excellent leash manners. Gus came to BarkVille Dog Rescue after he was picked up as a stray and spent time at an overcrowded metro Atlanta Shelter, where he eventually ended up on the euthanasia list. His foster Mom has nothing but wonderful things to say about him and how well he's adjusted to life in a home! He is just a big love bug who enjoys being by your side - that can be watching TV together, or going for a quick stroll around the neighborhood. Gus would excel in any household, and will make a loyal companion for a lucky family! He doesn't require a fenced yard, and would be happy living with other dogs or as the only dog. He will bark for a few minutes when he's first left alone (but settles down quickly!), so a condo or apartment may not be ideal for Gus. Gus is currently heartworm positive and is available for a foster to adopt situation until his HW treatment is complete and he is medically cleared for adoption. If you are not familiar with Heartworm disease, dogs get it from mosquitoes and it is not contagious. It is easily prevented and; highly treatable, but requires extended rest during treatment. BarkVille will cover all of his medical expenses while he is being fostered and receiving HW treatment. Gus is neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. If you're interested in fostering to adopt this handsome boy, please email us at info@barkvilledogrescue.org or submit an application at https://www.barkvilledogrescue.org/applications. BarkVille is located in Roswell, GA and our dogs are available for foster/adoption in the Greater Atlanta area. Applicants in surrounding states could potentially adopt a BarkVille dog if their application is approved, they live within 2 hours of the Roswell area, and they are able to pick up their dog from the foster home.January 1, 2025, 1:18 pm

Additional adoption info

The dogs that we have available for adoption have come from shelters where they were found stray or were given up by their owners. These dogs have been let down by humans in the past and may be suffering from physical ailments or abuse. So, by the time these dogs come into our rescue group they have been thru a lot and need a home that can provide them with structure, guidance, love, patience and time to adjust to their new surroundings. Please understand that as dogs transition from shelter to foster home to forever home there can be set backs along the way and they will need your help to adjust.

All dogs that are adopted from BarkVille are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and provided with all necessary veterinary care. However, owning a pet can be expensive and you must be prepared to provide quality food, monthly heartworm medication, monthly flea and tick medication, yearly shots and routine checkups. In addition, you must prepare for accidents and illnesses that may require expensive treatment or surgeries. Many times our dogs have ended up in shelters because their previous owners were not prepared for these expenses and we want to ensure this never happens to them again.

We strive to know and understand each of our dogs so that we can work to find the best match for each dog and adopter.

Our adoption process includes an adoption application, adoption interview, meet and greet, veterinary reference check, personal reference check and home visit prior to making the adoption final. We reserve the right to deny any application that we feel is not a good fit for any of our dogs for any reason. If you are ready to make a commitment to one of our dogs please complete the adoption application and submit for review. The adoption fees vary based on the age of the animal: Age 7 and up is $300, Between age 7 to 1 year is $350. Puppies under the age of 1 year is $400.

More about this rescue

BarkVille Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer non-profit. We envision a world where all dogs reside in responsible, loving homes.

Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment. The dogs are then placed in foster homes while they await placement into their permanent home.

Our goal is to help dogs without regard to age, breed, size, or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.
