Checkers is ready for some fun and games! This sweetie is somehow both a kid and an old soul at heart - he's loving, snuggly and playful, but also calm, wise and mature. Checkers is about 5-6 months old with a beautiful gray coat and piercing yellow eyes. He's ready for a home where he'll be cherished for years to come, just like the beloved game he's named after.

Checkers loves his kitten roommates, but he REALLY loves people. He's a laid back social butterfly who is content to just snuggle up in your arms as long as you let him. He'd love a home with another kitten or young cat, friendly dog and/or human kids! Checkers is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.

Submit Application

Fill out an application at the sanctuary or www.secondchanceas.org/adopt (Inquiries on online listings don't constitute an application)

2.
Interview

We will call your veterinarian and personal references. We'll also call you if we have questions or need more information.

3.
Approve Application

We will approve or deny the application. You may be approved to adopt, but not necessarily the same animal you originally applied for.

4.
Meet the Pet

This may be done before applying. You'll be asked to sign an adoption contract and to make a certain donation amount, rather than a set fee.

Additional adoption info

We are passionate about pairing animals in need with loving families who would best suit their individual needs. NOTE: You do not have to apply for a specific animal on your application. You can submit it as a "pre-application" for a certain size, age or breed of animal, and if approved, we can contact you if a possible match arrives at the shelter.

We are located in northcentral PA approximately 2.5 miles off Route 287 (please contact us for specific directions). Our facility is open 12-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and 12-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. We are closed Mondays and Wednesdays but are happy to arrange appointments outside business hours.

We are a 501 C 3 organization that focuses on stray and abandoned animals in need of help. We are no-kill and strive to offer our residents as much individual attention and care in an environment that is as low-stress as possible.
