My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet little Hans came to us from Tuolumne County Animal Control where he was turned in as an injured stray. He came to us with injuries consistent with an animal attack, and we suspect it may have been a larger dog or predator. Hans has come a long way in his recovery both physically and emotionally. His wounds are almost completely healed, but he will likely have some scarring (around his head and neck). He's submissive, but happy to have visitors and may give you a submissive smile when you first say hello. We've learned Hans wants to be close to people, but he will need some time to trust, so don't be surprised if he runs away or finds a corner to sit in at first. Hans enjoys sitting next to those he knows for pets and gentle talks, and is learning to enjoy his walks (he prefers them at a leisurely pace). So far Hans has shown a preference to stay away from other dogs, but that could change if one is easy-going enough and gives him space to trust them. He has hung out with our lobby cats successfully and might do well with cat friends in his new home if you have any. Stop by during open hours to spend time with Hans and get to know him, it'll be worthwhile! His caretakers can help answer any questions you may have.

Hans is estimated to be 4 years old and weighs 12 pounds.

All dogs/puppies will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated according to age, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention before adoption unless otherwise noted for age or health reasons.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Tuolumne County is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization established December 12, 1947 . At that time, however, there was no facility. The animals available for adoption were kept in volunteers’ homes. In the late 1980’s, the Humane Society gained a business office, but the animals were still kept in the homes of volunteers. Then, in 1997, the Humane Society acquired its current facility in Jamestown where we house animals available for adoption and provide other community programs such as spay/neuter assistance.

Our mission: Find Homes for abandoned, abused and unwanted cats & dogs, while promoting responsible pet ownership, and maintaining a clean and safe haven for adoptable unwanted dogs and cats.

We are 100% supported through private donations and volunteers.

The HSOTC does not euthanize an animal unless our team agrees its quality of life is critically compromised.

We accept as many animals for adoption that our donations and volunteers can support. More donations and volunteers=more happy adopted pets and fewer animals euthanized.
