My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Finnegan now called Phoenix is fostered in Wayland, MI

Hello potential Adopters! Meet our boy Phoenix who 'rose from the ashes' of being in a shelter to living in a foster home waiting for his forever home! Not a lot is known about his past other than he was confiscated as a young pup for some abuse. Phoenix holds no grudges though!  He is the sweetest, funniest, happiest puppy! Yep, he's only 10 months old and weighs approximately 40 lbs.

Phoenix is a typical herding breed - we believe him to be a border collie - who does have the border collie traits .  Those include herding drive, moderate-to-high energy and intelligence. He would love a more active family that is looking for a companion to join in all their adventures! If you are looking for a hiking buddy, a workout buddy, or maybe a sport dog partner, then Phoenix is your boy!  He is also good with just hanging out, having a game of tug or fetch, or just snuggling and being with you. Phones rides well in the car and enjoys the car rides.

Because of his strong herding drive a home with kids over 12, who can correct him with a firm 'No'. He herds his foster brother dog while running and playing, his foster mom's legs, the vacuum and most moving objects but he has learned to stop with a simple 'No' or a simple correction. This is part of his genetics is hard to be trained out of him, but can be stopped or redirected. He has done well with many other dogs, both young and old, and dogs of all sizes.  We are unsure about cats or small animals.

Phoenix is very food motivated and always hungry! I mean, he is still a growing puppy. He is learning to take offered treats and other food gently and doing great with 'easy' cue.  He is very smart and learns quickly. Phoenix has a beautiful recall, great leash manners and excellent house manners.  He knows sits, and is currently learning down. He is crate trained and does well for up to several hours. Best of all he will let you know when it's potty time by letting out a whine or bark when he has to go outside. He has a cue 'go potty' so he is learning to go on command, too.  Phoenix is a handsome puppy with the funniest head cocks and ear flops when you talk to him! He does have a  funny little overbite that we find adorable.

If your New Year's resolution is to be more active, learn something new (dog sport, maybe), get outside and enjoy nature more. then Phoenix might be the one for you. We are looking forward to chatting with you soon about your future with Phoenix!

Phoenix is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
