My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Axel is fostered in Pekin, IL.

Axel and his brother (Clutch) found themselves homeless after their owner passed.  Axel is a 45 lb blue merle male with a beautiful tail.  He is roughly 10 - 11 years young and you wouldn't know it by his actions.

Axel is very sweet and very eager to please. He is able to settle down pretty quickly once given attention. Axel has done well with his crate - going in easily and quickly, settling down, and no whining.  He has great house manners and likely does not even need to be crated.  He and his foster dad have crashed on the couch together a few times and he’s still right there when I wake up in the middle of the night…no accidents or destruction.

Axel has an occassional spurt of excitement with the cat, where he either completely ignores or goes into herding mode, so a dog-savvy cat would be recommended.  His ideal home would have a physically fenced yard.  Axel has done well with grooming - brushing, nail trims, bathing, etc.  Axel also enjoys riding in the car, walks well on a leash and is overall, a pretty happy boy.  Axel is starting to show an interest in fetch and frisbee.  He has done well socializing with people, teenagers and other dogs of all sizes.

Axel is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
