My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

HUMBUG hails from the Northern community of North Spirit Lake and he headed south with his sister, Marzipan, to find his forever home. He’s had his first and second sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no knowledge of his parents so the breeds we have him listed as are just a guess based on what he looks like and the weight he’ll grow to be is also a guess. He’s an energetic, outgoing little guy who loves to run around and play with his many dog toys and also chase his sister. He’s very loving, snuggly and loves to give kisses and receive belly rubs. He already has good manners and will sit patiently for his food and take treats gentle.
HUMBUG is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night and also take naps in it during the day. He’s working on his housetraining and most times he’s taken outside, he’ll do his business then. It is still a work in progress though and frequent trips outside are required for him still. He’s only just started to be walked on a leash and like all puppies will race ahead of you but with the harness that he wears, there is a bit more control with him. He does enjoy going on his walks and loves to run around and jump in all the snow we have right now too.
HUMBUG is well socialized with dogs as he has a few in his foster home and he gets along very well with  them. Therefore he would suit being in a home with another dog as long as a slow, monitored introduction is done. He would do equally as well as an only child as long as he’s not left alone for long periods of time. He loves the kittens in the home especially one called Wool and they’re often caught cuddling together in the dog bed so he would definitely suit being in a home with a cat. One of the pictures in his profile does show him and Wool together on a cat stand so he would definitely suit being in a home with a cat and it would help with introductions if the cat is dog savvy.

HUMBUG’s  ideal family is an active one who loves the outdoors and will take him on long walks and hikes. He travels well in a vehicle so will always be up for an adventure or two as well. He does require a fenced yard to keep him safe while he has a run around and play. Children should be aged 6 plus and be loving, gentle and kind to animals.
Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. The rescue needs his adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for puppy/obedience training in order to adopt him.
HUMBUG’s neuter is included in the adoption fee and will be performed no later than 9 months of age or 60lbs (whichever comes first.) The rescue also needs his adopter to be in agreement with this policy in order to adopt him. There is the option to get the neuter done at the adopters own vet clinic and the rescue will reimburse the fee that would’ve been paid at the SPCA but the timeframe rules must be adhered to in order for the rescue to do so. The rescue also requires a copy of the surgery invoice and a photo of the puppy (preferably in a cone or onsie) to receive the reimbursement.
If HUMBUG sounds like the puppy to join you and your family then please submit an adoption application to meet him.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
