My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

WASSAIL hails from the Northern community of Deer Lake and she headed south with her brother, Eggnog, to find her forever home. She’s had her first set of puppy vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. We have no knowledge of her parents so the breeds we have her listed as are just a guess based on what she looks like as is the size she’ll grow to be. She’s an energetic, outgoing little girl who loves to run around and play with her many dog toys and also chase her brother. She very loving and snuggly and loves to give kisses and receive belly rubs. She already has good manners and will sit patiently for her food.
WASSAIL is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night and also take naps in it during the day. She’s working on her housetraining and most times she’s taken outside, she’ll do her business then. It is still a work in progress though and frequent trips outside are required for her still. She’s only just started to be walked on a leash and like all puppies will race ahead of you but with the harness that she wears, there is a bit more control with her.
WASSAIL is socialized with dogs as she has one in her foster home and she gets along very well with him. Therefore she would suit being in a home with another dog as long as a slow, monitored introduction is done. She would do equally as well as an only child as long as she’s not left alone for long periods of time. She has 2 cats in her foster home so she would suit being with a cat and it would help with introductions if the cat is dog savvy. If not then for safety a slow, monitored introduction should be done while she’s kept leashed.
WASSAIL’s ideal family is an active one who loves the outdoors and will take her on long walks and hikes. She travels well in a vehicle so will always be up for an adventure or two as well. She does require a fenced yard to keep her safe while she has a run around and play. Children should be aged 6 plus and be loving, gentle and kind to animals.
Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training.  The rescue needs her adopter to be in agreement to sign her up for puppy/obedience training in order to adopt her.
Her spay is included in the adoption fee and will be performed no later than 6 months of age and the rescue also needs her adopter to be in agreement with this policy in order to adopt her. There is the option to get the spay done at the adopters own vet clinic and the rescue will reimburse the fee that we would’ve paid at the SPCA but the timeframe rules must be adhered to in order for the rescue to do so. The rescue also requires a copy of the surgery invoice and a photo of the puppy (preferably in a cone or onsie) to receive the reimbursement.
If WASSAIL sounds like the puppy to join you and your family then please submit an adoption application to meet her.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
