My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you're on the hunt for a pocket-sized Great Pyrenees with markings that are one-of-a-kind, then let me introduce you to Osirius. This guy is a true original, with a coat that's as unique as his personality. He may not fit in your pocket (we wouldn't recommend trying), but you'll certainly want him around with you always!

Osirius is a heartthrob in every sense of the word. With a coat that's a stunning swirl of smokey grey, brown tiger stripes, white, and, yes, don’t forget the essential polka dots—he's basically a walking, wagging art piece. If you're into attracting attention, get ready for the fame because this guy will have people stopping you on walks for sure. Sure, he’s the star, but you’ll be basking in the glow of his magnificence by association. 😉 Now, let’s talk about this boy’s early years. Imagine a dog who’s never been on a walk, never seen the outdoors, and, shocker, has never touched grass. Yep, that’s Osirius. His whole world was confined to four walls, and he wasn’t exactly getting the VIP treatment. No doggy school, no field trips, just a life of being "there." Until one day, his owner had to move to a nursing home, and that’s when everything changed. Several dogs with zero street smarts were suddenly unleashed into the wild. Well, let’s just say the situation didn’t exactly go as planned—and sadly, not all of the dogs made it. But, thankfully, some kind souls stepped in to help, and that’s when we got the call. Now, Osirius? He definitely gave everyone a run for their money as the last one to be caught—he was as elusive as a ninja on roller skates. But here’s the good news: he’s finally starting to understand that this new life of his? Pretty darn fantastic. Every day, he's realizing that there’s more to the world than just “existing,” and we can’t wait to see him continue blossoming into the sweet, charming pup we know he’s meant to be.

Osirius, like his namesake, is destined for greatness. His name is derived from Osiris, the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife, resurrection, and regeneration. Osiris was known for bringing life and hope where there seemed to be none, much like how Osirius is starting to blossom and embrace the second chance he's been given. Just as Osiris was a symbol of transformation and new beginnings, Osirius is now learning to leave behind the shadows of his past and step into the light of his new life. Now, while Osirius is more chill and low-key, he’s not all about being a couch potato. He does have his playful moments, especially when he's feeling comfortable and confident. You might catch him zooming around with a burst of energy or showing off his inner puppy during playtime. But once that’s over, he’s back to being your quiet, fluffy shadow. Osirius is a social guy at heart and does great with other dogs. Now, don’t expect him to be a golden retriever who's instantly best friends with everyone he meets. He’s a little more on the cautious side, needing some time to realize that other pups mean him no harm. But don’t let his shy nature fool you—he's no pushover when it comes to other dogs. Early on, he learned to stand his ground, and if another dog gets a little upset with him, he’s not one to back down. Fortunately, he's excellent at reading doggy vibes, so he tends to match their energy, adjusting his behavior accordingly. So, whether it's a calm or playful pup, Osirius knows how to navigate the situation. As for cats (or purrinators as we like to call them), Osirius won’t be trying to foil their plans for world domination anytime soon. He’s totally fine with felines and knows they’re just living their best nine lives. When it comes to kids, Osirius is solid. He’s currently hanging with a teenager in his foster home and is doing just fine. However, since he’s still learning that humans aren’t terrifying creatures, it’s best that any kiddos understand that he might need a little space at first. He’s not quite ready for spontaneous dance parties or cuddle tackle sessions. But with a little patience, he’ll soon be joining in on the fun—and you might just catch him breaking out his own version of the moonwalk.

If you’re on the hunt for a dog who will throw himself at the door, greeting every visitor like they’re his long-lost best friend—or a pup who’ll rush up to every stranger on the street like he’s auditioning for Best in Show—well, sorry to say, you’re barking up the wrong tree. Osirius is not that guy. Heck, he won’t even be a fan of you at first. He’ll probably give you a suspicious side-eye and wonder what exactly you plan to do with him. But don’t worry—his trust isn’t something you have to earn for long. It won’t take him long to figure out that you control the food supply and, more importantly, you’re the one who opens the portal to the great outdoors). Once he realizes you're his ticket to adventure and snacks, he’ll warm up to you faster than you can say "treat." And once he’s all in? You better believe Osirius will be the most loyal sidekick around. Your home will forever be covered in his fluffy fur, no matter how many times you sweep. He’ll also make sure you're never alone when it comes to finishing off that last bite of pizza. And when it’s time to relax, his fluffy butt will make sure your lap is never cold, gracing you with his presence whenever he deems it necessary. It’s not so much cuddling as it is his decision to bless you with his warmth.

If you had your heart set on a puppy, don’t fret—Osirius is still a puppy! At just about 6 months old, he’s young enough to still soak up all the love, guidance, and training you want to offer. But don’t forget, everything in this big wide world is still brand new to him. And while his indoor life hasn’t exactly come with a crash course in manners, he’s learning the ropes. He’s almost potty trained, but let’s be real—he’s still a pup, so there might be the occasional “whoops” moment. But hey, at least he’s kennel trained, so you won’t be completely doing it all yourself. Now, we know what you’re thinking: “Will he chew up my shoes?” Well, while we’re not going to tell you he’s a perfect little unicorn who will never chew anything (because let's face it, he's a puppy), we can happily report that so far, he hasn’t been a destructive chewer in his home. With a puppy-proofed space, you can breathe a little easier knowing he’s not planning to turn your furniture (or home) into a chew toy. And as for his vocal abilities, while he is part Pyr (hello, barkers), he doesn’t yet have a strong urge to sing the song of his people every time a leaf falls. If another dog gets started, he’ll join in, but he’s not the type to bark at nothing—yet. We can’t promise it will stay that way forever, but as of now, you don’t have to worry about a 3 AM "bark symphony" from Osirius. As for apartment living? Yeah, that’s a no-go for this guy. He may be only 48 pounds right now, but he’s still soaking up the world around him. With everything that comes with apartment life—constant foot traffic, frequent outings, and the challenge of adjusting to daily walks—it's just not his speed at the moment. He’s the kind of pup who needs space to explore and settle into a routine that doesn't come with too many surprises.

If you are interested in offering Osirius a forever home, you can apply to adopt him at
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Once this application is in, it will be sent to his foster family to make sure that the fit is perfect—for both you and Osirius. After all, he’s not just looking for a home; he’s looking for the right humans to start his next chapter with. We want to make sure that everyone’s on the same page and that this is a match made in fluffy heaven. It’s not just about finding a home for Osirius; it’s about making sure that both he and his new family are ready for the adventure ahead. So, take your time, and let’s make sure this is the best decision for everyone involved—especially Osirius, who’s just getting started on his journey to trust and love.

Osirius is currently being fostered in Hutchinson, KS, but if you’ve fallen head over heels for this fluffy guy and you’re out of state, how about a road trip? We don’t send our amazing fluffy butts on commercial transports because, let’s face it, they deserve the VIP treatment. Who knows—maybe a scenic drive will give you some quality time to bond before you bring your new best friend home!
