My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aloha, potential best friend! My name’s Dijonnaise, but you can call me Dijon for short, or whatever cute nickname you come up with! I’m a 1-year-old hound mix with a tail that NEVER stops wagging (it’s practically a built-in windmill). I’m the kind of gal who loves everybody—I’ll be your shadow, your snuggle buddy, and your personal tail-wagging cheerleader. I’m a laid-back lady who’s all about good vibes, gentle walks, and super cozy snuggles. I get along with other dogs, so if you’ve got any furry friends, I’m game for playtime. I’m just looking for a loving family who’ll take me on walks, teach me new tricks (I’m a quick learner with lots of kisses to give!), and shower me with love—because I’ve got tons of love to give in return! I might be living here in paradise right now, but I’m ready to fly to the mainland and start my new life with you. If you’re looking for a gentle, sweet girl who will melt your heart (and maybe slobber it a little with kisses), I’m your girl. I guarantee I’ll put a big, goofy smile on your face every day! Come meet me at Kauai Humane Society—I promise you won’t regret it. I’m ready to give you a lifetime of wagging tails, cuddles, and the most aloha-filled companionship. Schedule a meet and greet today or walk in anytime from 12 pm - 4 pm except for Thursdays.

More about this shelter

The Kauai Humane Society was established by the community in 1952 as a local non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to protect Kauai’s animals. We opened our current home just west of Lihue in 2001 thanks to the generous support of many individuals, families, businesses and foundations. We are an independent animal welfare organization and not a chapter of any mainland or Hawaii group.

The Kauai Humane Society(KHS) is the only physical animal shelter in Kauai County, Hawaii. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a government contract to allow KHS to provide services to Kauai County for humane field services for cats and dogs.

Our facility does not turn away any sick or injured cat or dog found on Kauai. We strive to not euthanize any healthy, adoptable, and/or treatable animals for space or treatable medical reasons.

In 2022, for the year overall, KHS achieved a Live Release Rate of 94.4%; meaning 94.4% of the animals that came into KHS during 2022 were released with a positive outcome of being adopted, returned to the owner, or transferred to a rescue group.
