My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ziggy: The Sweetest Little Survivor Looking for His Forever Home! If you’re looking for a tiny, playful companion with a heart as big as his spirit, then meet Ziggy! This adorable 9-month-old pup may only weigh 5 pounds, but he’s packed full of love, joy, and resilience.

Ziggy has had a rough start in life, but he’s ready to leave his past behind and find a home where he can feel safe, loved, and pampered. He spent his early months living in an unstable situation, which included a broken leg that wasn’t treated properly. By the time he came to us, his leg had healed at a bad angle, and he needed surgery to have it rebroken and set the right way. After wearing a large, bulky cast for eight weeks, Ziggy finally healed and is now good as new—both in body and spirit.

Despite all that he’s been through, Ziggy is an absolute sweetheart. His foster family describes him as a silly, loving, and playful little guy. He has a special knack for entertaining himself with squeaky toys, tossing them in the air and chasing them around like a little energizer bunny. And don’t let his tiny size fool you—he can hold his own in a good play session with other small dogs!

Ziggy is still working on being fully housetrained, but with the right schedule and consistency, he can have perfect weeks. His foster mom is helping him learn the ropes, and he’s making great progress. Ziggy’s ideal home would be one where he’s not left alone for long periods and where he has some outdoor space for easy potty trips. He thrives in environments where he can be surrounded by people and other pets who shower him with attention.

Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Ziggy is $300.

If you are interested in adopting Ziggy, please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/
. One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area.

Additional adoption info

The Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption procedure is designed to find a good match between the dog and adopter. Our goal is a happy foster to forever transition. The adoption procedure includes an application, interview, home check, and an adoption donation. The adoption donation helps to cover spay/neuter, shots and other medical care given before the dog is made available for adoption.

More about this rescue

Grateful Dogs Rescue was founded in 1990; its mission is to rescue dogs not made available for adoption at San Francisco Animal Care and Control, and other local shelters, through no fault of their own. Rather than letting these dogs be euthanized, Grateful Dogs saves as many as possible by fostering these dogs in a loving home until a forever loving home is found.

Grateful Dogs Rescue is always in need of new foster homes!  You can make a difference by fostering. The number of dogs we can save is dependent on having foster parents to care for them until they find their forever homes. All of our dogs are in foster care.
