Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Pepino
Pepino is an adorable puppy with a big heart and an incredible story. Her mom, a Rat Terrier mix, and her siblings were abandoned by their original family in Texas, but Pepino didn’t let her rough start define her. Now safe in Illinois, she’s ready to find a forever family to shower with love.
While her dad’s breed is unknown, Pepino’s build suggests a larger mix, making her a unique and lovable companion. She’s playful, curious, and full of energy—everything you’d expect from a happy puppy. Whether it’s romping around the yard, exploring new toys, or snuggling up after a busy day, Pepino will be right by your side.
She’s learning the ropes of family life and is eager to please. Pepino would thrive in a home where she can continue to grow, learn, and share her boundless love. If you’re looking for a sweet, playful puppy to complete your family, Pepino is waiting for you.
Are you ready to give Pepino the loving home she deserves?

More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
