My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Amelia is a beautiful cream colored Golden Retriever. At 10 years old, she was retired from breeding and is loving life inside a house with her foster family.

Like a typical golden, Amelia loves her people. She is happiest when she’s with her family and is vocal about getting pets! But she is also crate trained and enjoys going in her crate for some quiet time and hanging out in there while her foster family isn’t home.

Amelia has loved every single person she’s met, and she is fine with dogs and cats. But she’d also be okay being your one and only. She has never had an accident in her foster home and is good about telling her family when she needs to go out.

Don’t let her age fool you - Amelia is learning how to play fetch in the backyard and can be pretty quick. She doesn’t need a fenced in backyard, but she can be a strong puller! She sometimes does young dog things like go for socks, so her foster family tries to keep those out of reach. Amelia also doesn’t love the stairs, but has been happy hanging out in the main level of her foster home.

Amelia is the sweetest girl who is looking for someone to spend her golden years with! Give this old girl a chance and she will be the best companion you’ve ever had.

Amelia is spayed, up to date on shots, and monthly preventatives.
Any potential adopter will be required to travel to Harrisburg to meet Amelia with all family members including other dogs.

More about this rescue

Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!
