Peru is still working to figure out her place in the world. While she may start off reserved, she warms up in her own time and shows moments of sweet sociability. Peru enjoys sniffing and exploring her surroundings, and when she’s ready, she’ll surprise you with happy toe taps and wagging as you scratch her favorite spot—her bum!
She’s easy to leash and handles new situations with quiet curiosity, though she can be nervous. With patience, love, and a stable routine, Peru has the potential to blossom into a loyal and affectionate companion.
If you’re looking for a calm, introspective friend who will reward your kindness with gentle affection, Peru might be a match for you!
Eligible for rescue and adoption. Meet Peru at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
1/2/25 staff notes:
Brought Peru out for some activity time today. She was very easy to leash at the front of her kennel and was giving mid level wags. She exited easily. Once in the room she sniffed around a lot, remaining fairly aloof to me, but allowed all over handling without issue and was tolerant. When another handler entered she got very wiggly and ran over to her with mid level wags, but lost interest after a few seconds and went back to sniffing around. As time went on she did show more sociability and would approach to solicit in small spurts doing toe taps and wagging when scratching her butt.

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Owned
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Peru was by the door sniffing the crack here the handler was standing. When the handler approached she sniffed the leash but then retreated. The handler lowered the divider and Peru stayed in the back by the divider. She was able to be easily lassoed and exited without issue.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING:
In the room Peru was nervous and stressed. She was panting heavily and walked around doing a perimeter check. She allowed handling in small spurts from her main handler but remained nervous and did not lean in at all or solicit. No interest in treats, too nervous at this time. She allowed handling from me when I approached her as well and was tolerant. When a male staff member entered the room she was nervous towards him but was unreactive and did not show any concerning behavior, just shy and needed time to warm up!
