Zookie's Walk Sheet as of December 31st, 2024
Zookie was taken for a walk on December 23rd, 28th, 29th, and 31st. Zookie's walk on December 23rd was noted to be an 'eval', and no other interaction notes were listed. Zookie's walk on December 28th was noted to be 'activity time', and no other interaction notes were listed. During Zookie's walk on December 29th, mild issues with shyness were noted, and she was found to be at a medium energy level. Zookie met fellow dogs Sunny, Winter, and Ace during this walk and was 'aloof at first', but gave the handler kisses at the end. During Zookie's walk on December 31st, very mild issues with shyness were again noted, and her energy level was medium. Zookie's handler noted that they 'took a walk to cemetery' and found that Zookie 'walks nicely on leash' and 'likes to sniff around big (dog) run', and found her to be a 'nice girl!' Additional information noted shows that Zookie has evidence of training on the 'Sit' and 'Paw' commands, and enjoys playing with balls.
Per volunteer on 12/30: When I approached the Kennel she was laying on her bed calmly. I showed her the leash and opened the door and she came forward and put her head through the leash. She was not pulling walking through the kennels and outside she was aloof and sniffing everything. While she was sniffing I would do 1 stroke along her back with my hand and she was unfazed. She took treats and liked the pepperoni and cheese best. She met Sunny Winter and Ace through the fence, then Sunny Winter on a leash. She came to the fence quickly to greet Sunny, they sniffed faces with neutral body language and then disengaged and ignored each other. with Ace she was initially very tense with an arched back, tail middle/high and wagging stiffly and ears up. Then they disengaged and Ace wanted to continue to interact but she ignored him. Ace began biting the leash and she started barking at him when he did that.
On 12/24 behavior evaluation:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
In kennel, Zookie was on the front half and ran to the back side once i approached. I closed the divider and went to the backside. She had scared wide eyes and a lowered body. I opened the door slightly and asked her to come forward for “walks” in a baby voice. She slowly came up with a lowered tail and allowed easy leashing.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately
HANDLING:
In the room, Zookie was very stressed and anxious. She paced the entire room over and over, tried to climb up on the walls, and exit searched. She is super stressed and wouldn't focus on me for even a second. I tried approaching her with treats, baby talk and enticing her with pets but she is too stressed. I tried petting her and calling her over back to me but she would continue to run away. Will take her out once she gets some meds and more time to relax.
PLAY:
Would ignore me and continue to pace around
TOYS:
Too stressed
On 12/24 staff noted: “Allowed me to walk him to kennel with no issues. Was reactive towards male staff”
On 12/23 staff noted: “Very barky, was hard barking at a male but was ok with me once I sat down, knows sit and paw. Very treat motivated.”
On 12/23 staff noted: “was very barky in the intake lobby i went over with treats he is very treat motivated he took treats from me nicely knows sit and paw also but he was very wary of male staff and barked at him.”
Medical:
On 12/24 exam staff noted: “Quiet, alert, responsive, fearful, stressed and tense. Behavior notes: Not food motivated, doesn't like sliced cheese. Tense when approached or called. Avoidant.”
