Meet Hoagie, a young boy full of excitement and love for his people! Hoagie was picked up by the cops as a stray and brought to ACCT Philly. Since getting to the shelter he has shown that he's incredibly affectionate and also has some puppy antics that he could use some training on. Hoagie is a young, food-motivated boy who is eager to learn! He is looking for a kind and patient human to take him in and show him the ropes.
He is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly- you can meet him any day from 10am-6pm!
Behavior Notes:
Per Volunteer 1/2/24: Hoagie was alert at the front of his kennel, waiting for me with a wagging tail. Easy to leash and walks nicely on leash- it was easy to direct him and he doesn’t pull much. Very food motivated! He takes treats very gently and came right to me when I brought them out of my pocket. Humped me a few times- didn’t get off with verbal directions but allowed me to pull him off with no escalation. Met another dog through the fence and was barking and jumping up his tail stiff but wagging. When we were walking after, he pulled more to go towards the other dog. He humped my leg several more times and allowed me to pull him off each time. No issue returning to kennel
Per volunteer 1/1: Hoagie is a sweet little buddy with good leash manners. He was happy to explore on his walk and did lots of sniffs. There were other dogs out and Hoagie showed some barrier reactivity. The other dogs were already in a meet so did not proceed to face to face. Hoagie was social and affectionate with me. He would occasionally try to hump but was easily redirected.
Hoagie's Walk Sheet as of December 31st, 2024
Hoagie was taken for a walk on December 31st, where no issues were noted, and their energy level was noted to be low. Their handler noted that Hoagie is 'kind of skittish', but 'very gentle'.
Per staff 12/31/24:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Hoagie was at the front of kennel and was tense and had wide eyes. He appeared very fearful and sniffed the leash and began to give some tucked low wags. He allowed the handler to do a quick little lasso him ears to snout and exited easily once secured with a leash.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately
HANDLING:
In the room Hoagie was neutral and had soft eyes. He was very food motivated and showed knowledge of sit but is not very patient. He could get very snatchy though and was not very patient! He allowed all handling but as time went on he would get aroused and randomly try to mount his handler. He was able to be pulled away without issue and would redirect for treats. He was tolerant to all handling, but remained mostly interested in treats.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
No interest
Per staff 12/30/24: Dog is very nice, let me leash, walked well on leash.
