My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Honey is a super sweet and active poodle mix who came to us very injured from the Fort Bend TX shelter. She had to have orthopedic surgery and has since recovered.

She is about 3 years old.

Her is what she needs:

• Secure, fenced-in backyard and no cyclone fences (she can climb, and I think she could clear a cyclone fence if she put her mind to it)
• No doggy door and must be supervised while pottying outside (she is super mischievous, tries to eat things she shouldn’t, and will try to find a way out, not because she’s scared, but because she craves adventure beyond the yard)
• Must be secured when visitors come to the door (she is a door dasher…I typically have my family members text me ahead of time before they arrive lol…the couple times they forgot, they opened the door, and Honey squeezed through the crack of the door)
• She likes to follow me around the house and has gotten under my feet and tripped me a few times, so probably not a good match for someone with significant physical limitations/restrictions…
• Needs lots of playtime and decent amount of physical activity and mental stimulation, or she can be a bit destructive. That being said, she has excellent crate manners and has never destroyed anything in her crate. She can be redirected when I’ve caught her tearing something up. She’s never torn up any of my furniture. Probably not a good fit for someone looking for a binge-watching partner. 😆
• No shared walls. She can be VERY vocal when playing and when she hears any noises outside.
• No toddlers/very young children probably best. She is VERY sweet and loves everyone, but she plays rough, and her play bite can hurt (she has actually bruised my ankle before). An older kid or adult would likely know how to safely and calmly redirect her; I think a toddler or young child might either become fearful or lash out/hurt Honey out of fear or anger. Visitors are fine WITH supervision. I’ve supervised her with my 2-year-old niece, and she was very sweet with her and even indifferent at times after I redirected her a couple times from trying to play bite my niece; my niece ended up playing fetch with Honey, and Honey loved it. I just wouldn’t ever leave her unattended with my niece. My older nieces and nephews (ages 9, 16, 17, 19) were great with her, and she loved them too.
• Another playful pup in the home would be ideal. She loves loves LOVES to play with my Kailee girl. It’s so funny and sweet to watch…she also stalks Kailee, which is hilarious.

Additional notes:
• 100% crate trained (and I crate her when I work due to her aforementioned antics when left unsupervised lol)
• House broken on a schedule (She knows she’s supposed to potty when she goes outside. She JUST had her first peepee accident in the house the other day, but it’s because she had been playing for a long time, and I was busy getting ready and lost track of time.)
• She’s still a bit sensitive with her back paws, especially the right one, so she’ll kind of snarl and curl her lips when I wipe them, but she’s never bitten me hard. It’s gotten way better because I’ve learned how to redirect her.
• If I had to guess, I’d say she’s about 75-80% play/zoomies/wrestling, and 20-25% love and snuggles. 😂 She’s been cuddling with me when I nap and stays really quiet and calm. She also stays quiet all night long. She loves some good pets, belly rubs, and kisses.

More about this rescue

CAMO Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers life, health, and a forever home. We specialize in dogs that other rescues can’t or won’t take due to fearful nature or medical needs. We primarily rescue ‘euthanasia listed’ animals that are in immediate danger of death. We provide shots, spay/neuter, microchip, foster homes, food, medical treatment and love to dogs that are abandoned, unwanted or otherwise in need. We never euthanize an animal to make room for another. In addition to caring for our dogs and finding the best possible home for them, we provide education to the community; encouraging and promoting responsible pet ownership. If needed, our rescue dogs are retrained to socialize in an adoptive loving family. We have had phenomenal success, and amazing support from our community. We believe that animals, as living creatures are entitled to a quality life, respect and compassion. Since humans have domesticated animals, we have a moral and ethical responsibility to care for them. We are partnered with many Shelters to help them reach the same goal.
