Ernie is an approximately 1-year-old black and tan boy who came from a local shelter, so not much is known about his background. He weighs right around 62 pounds but is quite tall.
This poor guy probably had never been in a home before. Floors, stairs, and dog doors scared him. But, he has started coming out of his shell. He navigates the dog door and the stairs like a pro now. He appears to be housebroken with the use of a dog door. He is crate trained but sleeps freely in the house at night after earning the privilege.
Ernie is a sweet boy who wants to please, but he still has a puppy brain in a large dog body. Care should be taken when giving treats as he gets very excited about them. He also eats in the presence of other dogs like he’s had his food taken from him before. This means he wolfs it down before other dogs can take it. When he is fed by himself he eats in a much calmer manner.
Ernie walks fairly well on leash but could use more practice. He would do well with more training. Ernie has caught a possum before, so no small animals for this boy.
Ernie will be an awesome dog when he gets older!
No cats or small critters

Additional Adoption Information
For more information and to see when this dog will be attending an Adoption Day, please see our Dogs page on our main website. (https://www.gcgsr.org/adopt_info.html) We operate within a reasonable driving distance from the Greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley down to Merced, and Lake Tahoe. A reasonable driving distance is determined by where one of our volunteers is willing to drive within our areas of service. That means we don't adopt out of our area, to Southern California, or out of state.
Puppy Requirements
We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy (https://www.gcgsr.org/puppies.html) email us at info@gcgsr.org for more information.
