Montaro, meaning Big Boy, is a handsome sable youngster who we are guessing is in the 2–3-year age range and is an ideal weight of 77 lbs. Monte came into our program after being surrendered by his owners because he was difficult to contain. He was an escape artist and spent his time seeking adventure and chasing cars. Fortunately, as he spends time in his foster home and is experiencing boundaries and a routine, this behavior is less frequent. While he is learning his place in the household and pack, he will need secure fencing to ensure his safety. This boy's desire to be with his human is clear – he will gaze into his human’s eyes in expectation of the next interaction or command. He wants to please his human, is very responsive to direction, and is also treat motivated – this boy seems to enjoy the interaction so continued training will be fun for him!
Monte lived with cats, kittens, and chickens in his prior home, and he is currently living with cats in his foster home, so this boy can likely live with dog-savvy cats. He is house-trained using a doggie door, and he will sleep quietly in a crate or on a dog bed at night. Monte is very affectionate, and this regal boy reverts to a giant goofball when it’s time for snuggles! He has proven to be trustworthy when left home alone (if he is securely fenced!) and does not engage in puppy shenanigans when left home alone. He gets along well with the 3 resident older German Shepherds, but so far has not engaged much with them. He seems to prefer the company of his human to that of his canine pack. He enjoys going in the car but will need continued work to walk nicely on a leash.
Since this boy is not always at his best when left to his own devices, he will do well in a home where he is an active participant and included in activities. One can’t help but fall in love with his sweet nature, and it will be wonderful to watch this boy as he continues with training, gains confidence, and settles into his role as Man’s Best Friend.

Additional Adoption Information
For more information and to see when this dog will be attending an Adoption Day, please see our Dogs page on our main website. (https://www.gcgsr.org/adopt_info.html) We operate within a reasonable driving distance from the Greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley down to Merced, and Lake Tahoe. A reasonable driving distance is determined by where one of our volunteers is willing to drive within our areas of service. That means we don't adopt out of our area, to Southern California, or out of state.
Puppy Requirements
We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy (https://www.gcgsr.org/puppies.html) email us at info@gcgsr.org for more information.
