My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Winslow was found after he turned up in a homeowner's yard starving, dirty and blind in both eyes. How he survived outside as long as he did is an absolute mystery to us. From the moment he arrived at the shelter, he's been the most friendly and confident kitten imaginable. He had surgery to remove his damaged and nonvisual eyes, and after a few weeks of recovery spent in a foster home Winslow has adjusted wonderfully to indoor life as a blind kitten! He has no problems getting around once he's "mapped out" an area. He can do just about everything a cat with vision can, including jumping on and off of beds and furniture, chasing toys around and following his people around the house. He's unbelievably sweet and is so content to curl up next to you on the couch or climb up to your face and give kisses! Because of Winslow's challenges with vision, meeting other animals can be a scary experience for him, but with slow introductions he seems to enjoy the company of other kitties and especially loves taking turns chasing his kitten roommates around!

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
