My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kevin is being fostered in Ferndale MI

This stunning young hunk is Kevin.  Don't let his next door cute boyish good looks fool you...this guy has the brains and the good looks!  Kevin is a Mini American Shepherd weighing just 35lbs. He is a blue merle in color and does have a full tail.  Kevin is a bit of a nervous guy at first; we believe it is due to wearing a shock collar before coming to rescue.  He is a sensitive boy, just like every other Aussie.  His foster parents have been working hard on confidence boosting by using positive reinforcement training and him learning lots of skills and commands, having a very set schedule and routine, and exposing him to the world around him.

This boy is crate and potty trained.  He really likes his crate and that will be a necessity in his forever home because it is his safe space.  He needs daily exercise, we recommend a minimum of 2 hours a day for a young Aussie boy like him.  He rides well in the car and walks well on leash.

Here is what Kevin says about himself: I am a nervous guy at first. Once I warm up I will love you unconditionally! I’m a very affectionate guy who is looking for my forever people who will continue slow introductions and allow infinite kisses. I am great my crate! I know that it’s my safe space and voluntarily settle when it’s time to relax at night with my foster family. I am crated when everyone goes to work or runs errands, I need someone who will keep up my training to teach me my off switch. I love my walkies and am becoming a great running partner! While I don’t need daily run, I do need exercise. A walk around the neighborhood or jog is a must for me and some playtime.  Through a structured schedule and lots of exposure training, I am building my confidence! I know sit, down, shake, stay and am working on leave it! I need a family that will continue to expose me to new places and faces to continue my training and socialization.
I have a rough and tumble play style with other dogs! I love to romp around with my 4 legged foster brother and need to be told when to take a break. What can I say??? I’m still a baby and can’t contain my excitement! I have previously lived with kitty siblings and can coexist with supervision. a dog savvy cat is important for me if there is a cat.  I have been kid tested and find them pretty scary. Family members under the age of 12 are probably not a great match for me. I would do best in a home with older children and someone with Aussie or working dog experience.  I am not the kind of dog for a first time dog owner.

If you’re looking for a lover boy, Kevin is your guy! This sensitive, eager to please, cuddle bug is the perfect match!

Kevin is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, negative for all tick borne diseases and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
