Dexter is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix who is ready to find a family to call his own. This gentle giant was surrendered due to a change in his familys living situation, and now he is searching for a kind-hearted home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished.

Though Dexter is a bit shy when meeting new people, once he trusts you, he will shower you with affection, offering all the hugs and cuddles a dog can give! At heart, he is a big, soft teddy bear who just wants to be close to his loved ones. Because he is a little timid, Dexter would thrive in a calm, peaceful environment where he can take his time adjusting and building confidence at his own pace. He is good with other pets, having lived with cats, kids, and even a Chihuahua, but older, dog-savvy children who can respect his space would be the best fit for him.

On walks, Dexter loves to sniff everything he can, so he is a curious companion. He could use a bit of a refresher when it comes to leash manners, as he tends to get a little excited about all the wonderful scents. With some gentle training, hell be walking like a pro in no time!

Dexter is crate-trained and house-trained, so he is well-behaved indoors. He enjoys lounging around but is always up for a quiet stroll or a bit of outdoor playtime if the mood strikes. He is the perfect companion for someone who appreciates a calm, affectionate dog with a loving nature.

We would bring the dog to your home and conduct a home visit.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process encompasses several steps in an attempt to ensure the best possible placement of an animal with the most appropriate home. In addition to an application and time spent with the dog of interest, a home visit with the candidate is also a step in the adoption. We do charge an adoption fee as well as require the execution of an adoption agreement.

Canine Rescue of Central PA, Inc. is a nonprofit 501c(3), all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing assistance to any dog in a helpless situation. While a young organization, we have made tremendous progress in establishing another valuable resource for our furry friends. It is our mission to get involved in as many situations as possible to provide sanctuary, shelter, and homes to as many dogs as we can. We also are very focused on creating strategic partnerships with other rescues and similar organizations in an attempt to share resources as well as expand public awareness of the overwhelming problem of homeless animals.
