My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Did you know that there’s a Butterscotch Pudding Day? There is! It’s September 19! I’ve missed out on each one so far, but maybe next year…I’m a 5-year-old pretty calico mama named Butterscotch. I have a bent ear that my foster mom thinks makes me even prettier! I was found in a ditch in Hampton, MN, with an older kitten named Oliver and two very young kittens, Nutmeg and Ginger, back in September. The people who found us kept us all in a shed for a while until they could find a shelter that could take us. When Paws and Claws found space for us, we went to a wonderful foster home. Oliver stayed at the shelter and was soon adopted; my younger babies were with me in the foster home for a while, and I showed them how to be independent, well-behaved kittens. Once they were old enough, they returned to the shelter and were adopted together into a wonderful home, which made me happy! I am an affectionate girl who has been around dogs. I enjoy eating both canned and dry food, and I also like catnip-flavored Temptations Treats. I love to play with a scratch pad, scratching away, especially if there is catnip on it!!! Watch out -- I will take over!! I’ve had a number of health issues, however, and I ended up needing surgery. I do still have some special health needs, so please ask an adoption counselor for more information. Now that I have recovered from my surgery, it is my turn to come to the shelter and find a forever home. My foster mom has become very fond of me because I am so sweet, and she says I will always have a place in her heart. I hope I can be someone’s special Butterscotch, sweet like pudding, every day for many years to come. Can I have a place in your heart?

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
