My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mikey and Leo are a 9-week-old playful and affectionate kitten duo looking for their purr-fect home together! In case you’re wondering who’s who, Mikey is the solid black boy, and Leo is the long-haired floof with the little white boots.

These brothers are the kitten dream team! They are silly, curious, adventurous and SO. MUCH. FUN! If these boys are awake, there is a 100% chance they are playing full speed ahead. Whether they are chasing each other around the house, playing hide-and-seek in their cat tunnels or batting their favorite toys around in a game of soccer, these boys are go, go, go! After they get their wiggles out they prance around the house looking for a cozy lap to snuggle to sleep in. They have the best purr motors that shake the whole house when they really get going. The boys brighten every room they walk into and make their foster humans smile and laugh all day long. Their presence is like medicine for the soul and they are so easy to love.

The boys have a high energy level that is pretty typical for young kittens. While they only weigh 2-3lbs, when they really get romping around they sound like a pack of elephants! They keep each other great company and are able to use one another as an outlet to expend their energy and kitten shenanigans. But, even once they wear each other out, they’ll never turn down the chance to play with a good wand toy or to chase a ball that is flicked around.

Mikey and Leo, affectionately referred to as the “Little Black Beans” currently live in a home with 2 humans, 2 resident cats and 1 resident dog. They’ve never met a human they didn’t immediately love. They would do wonderful with a young lively family with kids, but they would also do wonderful in a home with 1-2 humans who are looking to shower a couple kitties with lots of affection. They are incredibly social and adaptable and would thrive in a home with most any combination of humans and animals. As long as there are enough hands for petting and laps to lounge in, these boys would make a welcomed addition to just about any home.

Adopting these boys is truly like hitting the kitten jackpot. Their zest for life is infectious and every single day they find a new way to make their foster humans smile. They are like warm rays of sunshine, bringing lightheartedness and joy into every room they enter. So, if you’re looking to add 8 paws, 4 beady eyes, 2 button noses and infinite snuggles and smiles to your days, consider Mikey and Leo! They’ll be thrilled to meet you!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
