My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lazlo ACCT-A-209602 is a 4-year-old male who was brought in by APOs as a stray on 12/21. APOs noted that “dog appears severely cold and slightly underweight. Dog is struggling to stand and walk.” Lazlo is a sweet boy who was found shivering in the cold at night, crawling towards a trash bag as his only comfort & warmth. Due to his low temperature and general condition, he was sent offsite for overnight monitoring and is now back. He is sleepily hanging out in an office and despite being found in the cold, he is warming the hearts of everyone he meets!

Behavior Notes:
Per volunteer 12/27/24:
Lazlo approached me when I reached my hand thru his kennel and sniffed gently but was very fearful once I introduced the leash. With the help of a staff member, I slowly entered his kennel and was able to leash Lazlo. He was nervous exiting and froze once we got outside. He is very underweight and was shaking but was so sweet. I picked him up and carried him into the play yard where we sat in the sun together. He leaned in fully for pets and quietly took in his surroundings. Lazlo sniffed my treat bag and I knew he was hungry but was unable to treat him due to his restricted re-feeding plan. He warmed up and gained confidence and walked back into the kennel on his own. He is a sweet boy who broke my heart but I know still has a bright future with a family who will provide the love he deserves.

Per staff 12/23/24:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Lazlo was laying down in an office curled up on his blanket. He lifted his head up slightly but it began shaking so he put his head back down as he was too weak.

LEASH SKILLS:
N/A

HANDLING:
Lazlo was so weak and tired and was struggling to catch his breath so I kept our interaction to a minimum. He allowed all handling as he laid there and lifted his tail lightly for what seemed like a tail wag. He was very weak and malnourished but allowed me to check his teeth, ears and body.

TOYS:

Per staff on 12/22: “Lazlo did well for his dog meet with Kabib! Kabib came into the office where Lazlo was lying down, and once he was walked over, they sniffed each other & touched noses; the camera wasn’t working so I wasn’t able to get that part. Lazlo was tired and Kabib was preoccupied with sniffing around his environment, so they didn’t interact much outside of that other than Kabib hesitantly coming near Lazlo one more time. But they were able to casually coexist in the same space! Lazlo allowed head pets from another staff member the entire time.”

Per exam on 12/21:

“ - clean, no d/c, red eyes

- dry, waxy ears

- no ulcers found, slight dental calculus, gums pink

- deep puncture on front left paw & swollen, scabs on forehead, pressure sores on hind and both hind legs, hairloss on tail with scabbing

- male intact, 2 testicles

- Attitude: BAR (bright, alert, responsive), friendly, fearful

Overall Assessment: Hypothermic. Temperature too low to read. eating food that was offered. Pressure sores all over.”
