Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bernie is a year and a half old mixed breed dog. Our best guess is terrier and maybe jack russell. There could be beagle in there, but we just done know. Bernie weighs about 23 pounds. He is a little shy at first but warms up quickly. He was very loved by his mom who for serious health reasons couldn't care for him anymore.
Bernie has been is a foster home for about 3 weeks now is and doing great. He likes other dogs and is not toy or food aggressive in any way. He loves his foster siblings, especially a large hound that weights about 55 pounds. They cuddle together all the time.
Bernie has made great strides in foster care and is completely housebroken there. Of course, when dogs go into a new environment it takes time to adjust.
Bernie will sleep in the bed with you -under the covers - or in a a crate. He doesn't bark much inside the house unless he is playing with another dog, and then only occasionally.
He walks well on a leash, but would love a fenced in yard. He loves to play with other dogs, so another playful dog is a plus. He loves to play fetch with his person. He is shy around kids at first, so a home with only a few children or none would be best.
Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
