My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Staff thinks I will be ready by late December. My foster family says I’m a sweet little boy who is very shy but curious about my surroundings. I’m more laid back and prefer to watch everything going on when others are around. I prefer to explore when no one is around, and I love to play. I’m a little timid but will let you pet me because I like being petted. I love to play with toys and I like snacks. I would love to have another kitty playmate, but not sure about dogs or young kids. It might take a few days for me to get used to new surroundings and people, but I’ll warm up to a loving and caring person once I have new home. ***

I am not currently at the shelter because I`m growing big and brave in a foster home! You can sign up to pre-adopt me by placing a $50 choice hold. This is a non-refundable fee that does not go towards my adoption fee, but it does give you the first opportunity to adopt me. Shelter staff will contact you when I’m ready to go home with my new family! To place a choice hold, you can either come into the shelter or call us at 719-473-1741; you may wait to speak with a customer service representative or leave a voicemail. Choice holds are placed on a first-come, first-serve basis and only one choice hold can be placed on an animal.

I will have to be adopted at the shelter without a visit. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to visit while I’m in the foster home as it’s a lot of stress on me to be transported back and forth to the shelter for visits, which makes me more susceptible to getting sick. We want to be healthy for our new life together!

More about this shelter

Founded in 1949, Humane Society of the Pikes Region is the largest animal welfare group for homeless and abused animals in Southern Colorado, comprising of two campuses – one in Colorado Springs and one in Pueblo – as well as animal control offices in Centennial and Douglas County. HSPPR is a local, independent nonprofit not affiliated with national organizations such as ASPCA or Humane Society of the United States and relies on donations to fund its work. Passionate and dedicated staff rescue and care for animals in distress, provide medical care for abused and injured animals, reunite lost pets with their owners, find loving homes for homeless animals, and investigate animal cruelty and enforce animal ordinances.

As an open admission shelter, HSPPR helps all animals in need – no animal is turned away. That’s more than 26,000 animals a year affected by the mission. HSPPR works every day to end the euthanasia of unwanted animals through extensive community outreach and innovative programs. You can help by encouraging friends and families to adopt a homeless pet, volunteering your time or supporting our life-saving programs by making a donation. We are better together.
