Hugo 6874 and his brother George 6873 were part of a litter of 9 purebred GSD pups recently surrendered to the VGSR by a breeder who was unable to sell them. Hugo and George are kind of a big deal so they flew on a private plane (thanks to the awesome Pilots and Paws program) and made it to their foster home just in time for Christmas!
Hugo, the black pup with a little spot of white on his chest, is the largest of his litter and was described by the breeder as a "gentle giant." We can certainly see why! This endearing boy is quiet, likes to sit back and observe for a bit before deciding to engage, and loves to bring his huge floppy paws and ears over to plop calmly between your legs for pets from time to time when the dogs are out playing in the yard. He's also the bravest about interacting with the big dogs (as he should be, he's a big dog too!) in his foster home and only uses his Big Boy bark when he thinks there is really something worth barking about. Having Hugo around is like living with your own black bear cub, without having to worry about a mama bear coming after you. 10/10 would recommend Hugo.
Both pups have done really well so far making the change from outdoor kennel lifestyle to being housedogs. They have been learning collars and leashes, crate training, potty schedule, stairs, interacting with medium and large adult dogs, and how to say hello to cats without earning a swift boop to the snoot. They are being fostered in Bedford, VA.
Approved adopters who are interested in Hugo are welcome to email his foster at tgillisp1@gmail.com.
